What data we process and why

We only ask for the data strictly needed for what you request. Reading the magazine requires no sign-up.

• Contact form. Name, email and message, to reply to you. Legal basis: your consent when you send it. We keep the conversation as long as needed to deal with it and for one year at most.
• La carta (newsletter). Your email, to send you the newsletter. Legal basis: your consent. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link; once you use it we stop writing to you.
• El Pliego reservations. Name and email, to confirm your order if the issue reaches its reservation goal. Legal basis: pre-contractual steps taken at your request. If the issue is not printed we delete your reservation; if it is, we keep the order data for as long as tax law requires.
• Security. Your IP address is used briefly to limit repeated form submissions and prevent abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in protecting the website.
• Analytics. If you accept cookies, Google Analytics measures, in aggregate, which pages are read and where visitors come from. Legal basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

We do not use your data for advertising or profiling, and we make no automated decisions about you.

Who else has access to the data

We do not share data with third parties unless required by law. We do work with providers that process it on our behalf and only to provide their service to us:

• Amazon Web Services, which hosts the website and its database.
• The email delivery provider we use to send the newsletter and replies.
• Sentry, which records the website's technical errors so we can fix them.
• Google (Analytics), only if you accept its cookies.

Some of these providers may process data outside the European Economic Area, mainly in the United States. Such transfers rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or on the standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission.

Your rights

You may request access to your data, its rectification or erasure, restriction of or objection to its processing and its portability, and withdraw your consent at any time, by writing to us through the contact form. If you feel we have not handled your request properly, you can complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD).

The forms are intended for people aged 14 and over. If you are younger, ask a parent or guardian to write to us.

Cookies

A cookie is a small file a website stores in your browser. We use these:

• Technical (our own). The session cookie and the form-protection cookie (XSRF-TOKEN) make the website work and expire after two hours. We also store in your browser the colour theme you choose and your answer to the cookie notice. They require no consent.
• Analytics (Google Analytics). The _ga and _ga_* cookies tell visits apart anonymously and last up to two years. They are only set if you accept.
• Third-party content (YouTube, Transistor). Embedded videos and podcasts set those services' cookies. They don't load until you accept them.

Your choice is kept for twelve months. You can change it at any time from the “Cookies” link in the footer, and delete cookies from your browser settings.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will show a new “last updated” date at the top of the page.
